Drawing parallels between Lu Xun and Rabindranath Tagore, Qian Jianmin, mayor of Shaoxing, said both had left deep impressions in world literature. Pointing out that Lu Xun was a popular in Kolkata, mayor of Kolkata, Bikash Bhattacharya said people of the city love him for his empathy for the poor and the marginalized.

Chinese Consul General Mao Siwei present on the occasion said that both India and China need deeper understanding of each other's culture for further strengthening of ties. Chinese and Indians, who together account for two-fifths of humanity, would turn communication and understanding between the two countries into a "mass movement".
