The visiting Mayor of Kunming, China, Mr. Zhang Zulin, called on Mayor of Kolkata, Mr. Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya on 10^th November at Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The two mayors exchanged ideas on strengthening friendly relations and promoting future communication and cooperation between the two cities.

They agreed to develop more intensive, continuous, friendly and dynamic relationship between the two cities on the basis of respect and mutual benefits, and to send official delegations to visit each other regularly, in order to discuss the matters on mutual exchanges and cooperation as well as other affairs concerned.

The two sides also agreed to play an active role in promoting exchanges in the fields of culture, trade and tourism to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between peoples of both cities, and to further discuss establishing the sister city relationship on the foundation of mutual exchanges and cooperation.

The two mayors signed a MoU for the cooperative relationship establishment at a ceremonial function at Oberoi Grand Kolkata late the same day.

Kunming is the capital city of China's Yunnan Province and China Eastern Airlines has operated a two-hour-flying direct flight between Kunming and Kolkata since October 2007.
