Mr. Li Xiansheng, Executive Governor of China's Hubei Province, visited Kolkata, at the invitation of the Mayor of Kolkata, from 3rd to 4th November, 2008.

During his visit, Mr. Li called on Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal and attended a welcome banquet hosted by Mr. Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya, Mayor of Kolkata. The two sides exchanged views on communication and cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and education between Hubei Province and West Bengal.

Addressing a seminar on "Investment Opportunities in West Bengal", organized by Bharat Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Li explained the objectives of his visit and expressed the intention of his province to further economic cooperation with West Bengal. Mr. Manabendra Mukherjee, Minister of Micro & Small Scale Enterprises, Textiles & Tourisms, and Dr. Sabyasachi Sen, Principal Secretary, Department of Commerce & Industries, Government of West Bengal, highlighted the investment opportunities in West Bengal at the same seminar. Dr. Sen also underlined some important similarities between West Bengl and Hubei Province.

                     

Mr. Li also visited Millennium City, an IT Industrial Park in Kolkata.
