Consul General Zha Liyou Meets with West Bengal Speaker

On August 20, Consul General Zha Liyou visited West Bengal Speaker Mr Biman Banerjee.

The Consul General briefed the speaker on sub-national exchanges between Chinese provinces and West Bengal, and the structure of Chinese local government and operation of local people's congress. He said that the potential for pragmatic cooperation between Yunnan Province and West Bengal is huge, and the Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata is willing to work with the West Bengal Legislative Assembly to explore effective ways to promote friendly relations between Yunnan and West Bengal through exchanges between local legislatures.

Mr Speaker introduced on the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and expressed his willingness to maintain communication with the Chinese consulate to jointly promote pragmatic cooperation between West Bengal and Yunnan Province. He also made specific suggestions on strengthening people-to-people exchanges between West Bengal and China.

The Consul General also visited the assembly hall together with the Speaker.

Mr Nirmal Ghosh, Chief Whip of Government of West Bengal, and Consul Xie Chao were present.
