Chinese Consulate Kolkata Holds Seminar on "Indian Medical Mission to China and Sino-India Relations"

On June 14, Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata held a seminar on “Indian Medical Mission to China and Sino-India Relations”. Over 50 guests were present, including Pradip Kumar Mitra, Director of West Bengal Medical Education, Maria Fernandes, member of West Bengal Commission for Women Affairs, Mr. M Gantait, Chairman of Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis Memorial Committee of West Bengal and Chairman of the Indian Acupuncture Association, Mr. B. Bhattacharya, Secretary-General of Indian Acupuncture Association, Mr. Shyamal Ghosh, Secretary-General of Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis Memorial Committee and 30 Indian acupuncturists, All India Overseas Chinese Association President Chen Yaohua, Saraswati Online Chairman Dr. Partha Sarathi Ganguli, as well as representatives from the local medical community.

Consul General Zha Liyou delivered a speech at the seminar. He summarized the historical contribution of the Indian Medical Mission to China in supporting the Chinese people's cause of Anti-Japanese War, promoting China-India friendship, and spreading the cultural of traditional Chinese medicine. He said China puts forward the concept of diplomacy of intimacy, sincerity, reciprocity and inclusiveness to get along with our neighbors earnestly and sincerely. China looks forward to working with India to contribute more to the community of shared future for Asia, so that the Asian people can share peace, friendship, stability and prosperity.

Mr Zha pointed out that as the hometown of Dr. B.K.Basu and the initiating place and center for commemorating the Indian Medical Mission to China, Kolkata holds great significance in contemporary Sino-Indian relations. The Consulate General looks forward to strengthening cooperation with the government of West Bengal and continue to support institutions such as Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis Memorial Committee and Dr. B.K. Basu Memorial Committee.

The Consul General also introduced on Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Second Belt and Road Forum For International Cooperation and the White Paper of “China’s Position on the China-US Economic and Trade Consultations", and said the Chinese Consulate looks forward to working with friends from all walks of life in Eastern India to promote China-India relations and bring benefits to the two peoples.

President Gantait, Secretary-General Bhattacharya and Secretary-General Ghosh expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Consulate and promised to continue to work hard to carry on the spirit of the Indian Medical Mission to China and practice acupuncture to benefit the Indian people, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with their Chinese counterparts and jointly promote the friendly exchanges between India and China.

Director Mitra and Director Fernandez said that the government of West Bengal would be willing to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese Consulate to promote acupuncture and cultural and people-to-people exchanges and make greater contributions to Sino-Indian friendship.

The attendees also held discussions on issues including the establishment of a Memorial Hall for Dr. B.K. Basu, the promotion of acupuncture in India and the improvement of the effectiveness of acupuncture.
