2018/08/26

Mr Ma Zhanwu, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kolkata, met at his residence with Mr Rajesh Purohit, Director of the Indian Museum, and Mrs Purohit on 24 August 2018. Mr Sayan Bhattacharya, Education Officer of the Indian Museum, and Vice Consul Xie Chao were present.

Mr Ma said that the Indian Museum plays an important role in the cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and India. For example, it hosted the exhibition of Master Shi Dachan's calligraphy works and paintings a few days ago. The Chinese Consulate will maintain close contact with the Indian Museum to bring more exhibitions of Chinese culture to the local people, and further promote the friendly relations between China and Eastern India.

Mr Purohit said that Chinese culture is now very popular in West Bengal and other states of Eastern India, and relevant cultural exchanges and cooperation between Eastern India and China are very successful. This would not have taken place without the hard work of the Chinese Consulate. The Indian Museum will continue to support the work of the Chinese Consulate and contribute to the mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Eastern India and China.

They also had in-depth discussions on the cultural similarities and differences between China and India. Mr Purohit elaborated on the four Vedas of ancient India, the Rigveda, the Yajurveda, the Samaveda and the Atharvaveda, and the Upanishads that tell the secular truth through the form of dialogue between human and god.
