Consul General Ma Zhanwu Meets Head of Cheena Bhavana in India

Mr. Ma Zhanwu, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata, met with Dr. Avijit Banerjee, head of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture (Cheena Bhavana), Visva-Bharati University on 23 August 2018. Vice Consul Xie Chao was present.

Dr. Banerjee gave a briefing on the Chinese language teaching at Cheena Bhavana and its exchanges and cooperation with Chinese universities, especially on the preparations for the seminar it will jointly hold with the Chinese Consulate on 27 and 28 September, with the theme of “China-India Friendly Exchanges Since China’s Reform and Opening-up”. He also encouraged more Chinese students to study Bengali, Hindi, Mandarin, music, art and other majors in the Visva-Bharati University, and hoped that the Chinese Consulate would give it continued support.

Mr. Ma expressed to Dr. Banerjee his appreciation of the latter’s dedication and contribution to China-India cultural and educational exchanges and the friendship between the two peoples, and emphasized that the consulate would work closely with Cheena Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University to jointly hold the “China-India Friendly Exchanges Since China’s Reform and Opening-up” seminar and the Xuan Zang Cup Chinese Language Competition in the coming months, and further promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between China and Eastern India.
