Chinese Consulate Kolkata Holds Paper Cutting Exhibition and Workshop

On 10th and 12th of June, 2018, as invited by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata and organized by Department of Culture of Yunnan Province, Mr. Wang Zhongde, Arts Master of China, Mr. Wang Xinmu, famous Chinese paper cutting artist, Ms. Yang Qihui, inheritor of Chinese paper cutting intangible cultural heritage, visited Kolkata and had Chinese paper-cutting exhibition and workshop at the 2018 Kolkata Dragon Boat Festival and Birla Industrial and Technological Museum respectively.

Mr. Ma Zhanwu, Chinese Consul General; Ms. Qin Guizhen, Chairperson of YCCPS,; Mr. Manmeet Singh Goindi, Director (Eastern and Northeast Region) of the Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports; Prof. Maria Fernandes, member of the West Bengal Commission for Woman and Senior Vice President of the West Bengal TMC Minority Commission; Mr. Sujay Chanda, Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police; Mr. SK.Emdadul Islam, Director of Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, attended the events respectively.

About 60 exquisite pieces of paper cutting by the three artists were on display during the events. Mr. Wang Zhongde gave a brief introduction of Chinese paper cutting, Mr. Wang Xinmu and Ms. Yang Qihui showed how to do paper cutting of human face silhouette and symmetric flower, and had interactions with the Indians who camto the functions, including students and parents as well as Indian artists.

The superb skill and magic performance of the Chinese artists gave the crowds great enjoyment, and received warm welcome. All the people present were fascinated by the beauty of the traditional form of Chinese art.
