Consul General Ma Zhanwu Meets Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police in India
2018/06/05

On 4 June 2018, Mr. Ma Zhanwu, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kolkata, met at his residence with Mr. Sujay Chanda, Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police, West Bengal, India. Consul Li Suyun, Consul Wang Mei and Ms. Chaitali Das, President of Rotary Club of Calcutta Millennium and Managing Trustee of Rakshak Foundation, were present.

Mr. Chanda told the Chinese Consul General that he loves singing and would often sing for his colleagues and local audiences and he had also given performances in many parts of the country. He said that he very much looked forward to the joint program on 11 June 2018 in which he would perform along with artists from China. He thanked Mr. Ma for inviting him to be part of the Joint Singing and Dancing Performances by Chinese and Indian Artists, which would be the first time for him to share the stage with Chinese artists. He will sing Tagore songs, Bengali folk songs and Bollywood songs with the accompaniment of 8 dancers and an 8-member band.

Mr Ma welcomed Mr. Chanda's visit, and thanked him for the much preparation he had been making for the joint performances. He also indicated that the event is held in the backdrop of steady development of China-India relationship and fast growth of exchanges and cooperation between China and Eastern India after the fruitful meeting in Wuhan, China between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Modi in late April this year. Very soon, as he told, Madam Mamata Banerjee, the Honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal, will lead a delegation to visit China, and several groups from Eastern India will go and attend the China-South Asia Expo, which will be held in Kunming, Yunnan, China from 14 to 20 June 2018. On the other hand, more Chinese delegations and groups are coming to Eastern India nowadays, and the artists this time will be from Yunnan Province. It is believed that the joint program will contribute to cultural exchanges and friendship between China and India.

The two sides also discussed the event flow and other relevant issues.
