Chinese Consulate Kolkata Gives Free Lunch to Local Children

The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata, in cooperation with the Xuan Zang (Hiuen Tsang) Buddhist Monastery, fed over 150 poor children who lived near the temple during lunch time on 17 May 2018.

Consul General Ma Zhanwu distributed fruits, snacks and bottles of water to the children, and brought food to the tables for the boys and girls together with Master Hui Rong of the temple and more than a dozen volunteers working there.

Mr. Ma told the children that May 17th is the International Art of Giving Day  and the Chinese people have the tradition of giving help to the underprivileged, which is shared by the Indian people, as the two great nations have had friendly exchanges since ancient times.

He told the boys and girls to enjoy the lunch and to get to know the friendship between the two peoples.

He also expressed his appreciation of the hard work by Master Hui Rong and the volunteers on a hot summer day.

The children sat in lines to receive the snacks and queued to enter the dining hall. They all expressed thanks to the Chinese Consulate and the Buddhist temple.

Consul Shao Yujin and Ms Chen Fei were present at the above event.
