Consul General Ma Zhanwu Speaks at MCCI Round-table

Mr. Ma Zhanwu, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kolkata, addressed the interactive session on the topic of "Doing Business with China" organized by the Merchants' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) in Kolkata, India on 25 April 2018. Mr Ramesh Agarwal, President of MCCI; Mr Alexey M. Idamkin, Russian Consul General in Kolkata; and over 100 members of MCCI and journalists were present.

Mr. Ramesh Agarwal extended a warm welcome to Mr. Ma,and expressed the hope that the bilateral relations between China and India would be strengthened by more exchanges. He would like to see more Chinese companies invest in West Bengal and more Indian companies export commodities to China.

Mr. Ma thanked MCCI for arranging such an interactive session. He said that a great many achievements in China-India economic cooperation have been made thanks to efforts by the MCCI and the business community in Eastern India. In Kolkata, more and more Made-in-China commodities are sold in China Market and Fancy Market. This is an example that reflects the fact that the economic ties between China and Eastern India are deepening.

Mr. Ma said the meeting between Prime Minster Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping would take place soon and boost the bilateral ties significantly. It is very important to maintain a good relationship between China and India because both countries are major powers and also neighbours.

With regards to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to China, Mr. Ma said that China is ready to strengthen bilateral ties with Eastern India, particularly with West Bengal in the coming years.

Then, a video on the First China International Import Expo was played on the scene. Mr. Ma answered the reporters’ questions related to the bilateral exchanges, environmental protection, tourism and China International Import Expo and so on.

Mr. Ma was accompanied by Consul Wang Lifeng and Vice Consul Gao Xiang.
