About 100 people were present at the function, including Mr. Gao Shuxun, Adviser to the People’s Government of Yunnan Province and Director of China-South AsiaExpo Executive Committee; Mr. M. K. Saharia, Chairman, North East, ICC and Chairman for Promotion of India-China Cooperation; Mr. Rajeev Singh, Director General of ICC; as well as members of ICC, delegates from Yunnan, and Indian journalists.

Mr. Gao said in his speech that China-India informal summit meeting will be held one day later, which would give guidance for future development of the bilateral relationship. Our two countries are neighbors with a total population of more than one third of the world’s total. Both countries are growing rapidly and the potentials for bilateral economic and trade cooperation is tremendous. Yunnan and Eastern India are also presented with opportunities to enhance economic relations. The CSA Expo 2018 is the largest ever since its beginning, and a related Expo would possibly be held in South Asia later this year. The promising fields of cooperation between Yunnan and Eastern India include agriculture, infrastructure, biotech, medicine, education, health care, etc. It is hoped that the two regions can have more economic ties as well as more interactions for better understanding and lasting friendship.

Consul General Ma said that one of the priority tasks of the Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata is to promote economic relations between China and Eastern India, and he was grateful to the Yunnan delegation for their visit to help promote the economic exchanges. He also thanked ICC for its active work in this regard. He said that the bilateral summit meeting in Wuhan is of course very important, and the efforts of ordinary people are also significant. He urged the Indian entrepreneurs to attend the 5th CSA Expo this year in Kunming, to conduct mutually beneficial cooperation with their Chinese partners.

Mr. Saharia said that India and China worked together to bring about the ancient globalization thousands of years ago through their exchanges of thoughts, goods and visits, which had contributed a lot to the peace and prosperity of the world. If India and China could join hands, they would help shape the future of the world. And the bilateral economic and trade ties have great potentials. Eastern India and Yunnan are close geographically, and Kolkata and Kunming have witnessed close interactions over recent years. The Indian enterprises are urged to attend the 5th CSA Expo in Kunming to strength their economic ties with China, which would help reduce India’s trade deficit with China.

A video on the CSA Expo was shown following the speeches, and Mr. Gao and Consul General Ma interacted with the audience in the Q&A session.

Consuls Li Suyun and Wang Lifeng also attended the above function.
