Consul General Ma Zhanwu Visits KIIT & KISS Campuses in India

Mr. Ma Zhanwu, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kolkata, visited the campuses of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Inistitute of Social Sciences (KISS) on 9 February 2018.

He was welcomed by Dr. Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT and KISS, teachers with the two universities, and ten thousand girls with KISS.

Dr. Samanta told the Chinese Consul General that the visit was major development in the relations between the two universities and China, and expressed the hope that KITT and KISS could have exchanges with schools and universities in China.

Addressing the crowd, Mr. Ma thanked Dr. Samanta and the faculty and the girls for their hospitality, congratulated Dr. Samanta on the great achievements of KIIT and KISS, and said he was impressed with what he saw on the two campuses. He also gave a brief introduction of the developments in China, especially the efforts to combat poverty and the accomplishments made so far. He told the audience that the lovely girls at KISS are just like those in China, and he hoped that China and India can work together to bring about good education and prosperity to all girls and boys in the two countries and the world at large. He also promised that his consulate would work with KIIT and KISS to conduct China-related programs on the campuses so as to acquaint the students with the Chinese culture. He invited Dr. Samanta to lead a delegation to China for exchanges and tie-ups with Chinese universities.

Mr. Ma interacted with the girls and asked about their studies. When he learnt that the 6-year-old girl named Mamata saved her sister Asanti from the mouth of a crocodile by beating it with a bamboo stick, he praised the brave young student, and raised her up, which produced cheers from the crowd.

Thereafter, Dr. Samanta met the Chinese diplomat separately and gave him a briefing of the growth of KIIT and KISS as well as his own experience. Mr. Ma expressed his admiration to Dr. Samanta, saying that the latter was a great ambassador of peace and development and had contributed greatly to the betterment of the world, and his thoughts are also very much enlightening.

Mr. Ma also had a tour of the campuses and spoke to the media on his visit to the campuses, emphasizing the welcome was very touching and that he believed the educational exchanges between the two universities and their Chinese counterparts would be beneficial to both sides and should be initiated soon.

Mr. R.N. Dash, Secretary of KIIT and KISS, Ms. Pragyan Patnaik, Deputy Director for International Relations, and Mr. Liu Li, Consular Attache, and Mr. Chen Guangning were present at the above functions.
