Consul General Ma Zhanwu Attends Annual Day Event of Indian Public School

On 22 November 2017, Mr. Ma Zhanwu, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata attended the Annual Day Event of Jyotirmoy Public School (JPS) as chief guest, which is located at Kalikapur, Sonapur, West Bengal, India.

About 3000 people were present at the function, including Dr. Partha Sarathi Ganuli, President of Jyotirmoy Education & Welfare Foundation and founder of JPS; Mr. Sushant Das, Principal of JPS; Consul Li Suyun and Vice Consul Shi Lijun of the Consulate; JPS students and their teachers and parents, as well as the villagers from the nearby farms.

Addressing the crowd, Consul General Ma Zhanwu applauded JPS for the great progress it had made in many aspects, especially for the twinning relationship with the Citic Lake Bilingual International School, Nanhai, Guangdong Province, China(中信山语湖双语国际学校), and said that his consulate would keep in contact with JPS and support its continued interactions with its counterparts in China.He also thanked Dr. P.S. Ganguli for his contribution to educational and other exchanges between China and India, especially for his recommendation, to Chinese universities, of thousands of students from India and other countries.

Noting that the friendly ties between China and India date back thousands of years ago, Mr. Ma emphasized that the bilateral relationship has bright prospects in the new era, and would witness great progress with efforts by both sides. And the exchanges and cooperation between China and Eastern India will grow accordingly.

Mr. Ma shared with those present at the ceremony that his consulate is working hard to promote the development of such ties and has held many activities to this end. Right now it is holding an online knowledge contest on China-India friendly exchanges and the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. He encouraged the JPS students and their teachers and parents to visit the website of the Chinese consulate to learn about the details and take part in the contest.

In conclusion, Mr. Ma gave his best wishes to the school and wished for further development of China-India ties and interactions between China and Eastern India.

Subsequently, the Consul General and the other honored guests gave out the prizes to the 42 winners and he presented them with souvenirs from China as well.

Dr. Ganguli and Principal Das thanked Mr. Ma and his colleagues for coming all the way to the JPS Annual Day and said they would keep in contact with the Chinese Consulate and work together with it for more educational exchanges and deepened friendship between the two peoples.
