Consul General Ma Zhanwu Meets Friends from Indian NGOs

Mr. Ma Zhanwu, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kolkata, met with Dr. M. Gantait, President of Acupuncture Association of India (AAI), and President of the Dwarkanath Kotnis Memorial Committee (DKMC), West Bengal, and 11 members from the above association and committee.

Consul General Ma expressed his appreciation to Mr. Gantait and the other Indian friends for their dedication to China-India friendship over the long years, saying that Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis and Dr. Bijoy Basu were old friends of the Chinese people, who made significant contribution to the Chinese liberation cause and China-India friendship. And the Chinese People will always remember them. In the new era, we should carry on the spirit of the two doctors and work hard to promote the people-to-people interactions and increase mutual trust and friendship between the two nations, thus laying the foundation for a healty and stable development of the bilateral relations.

M. Gantait and the Indian friends present told Mr. Ma that AAI and DKMC, both founded by Dr. Bijoy Basu, were committed over the past decades to promoting friendly exchanges with China. The members of the two associations will inherit the spirit of Dr. Kotnis and Dr. Basu, and continue to promote India-China friendship and people-to-people exchanges betweem the two nations.

The Indian friends also watched the short film named “A Brief History of Acupuncture and Moxibustion” made by the Consulate General and spoke highly of it. The film documented the introduction of acupuncture from China into India by Dr. Bijoy Basu in the 1950s and the friendly exchanges between Chinese and Indian acupuncturist over the recent years.

Deputy Consul General Cai Zhifeng, Consul Zhang Jing and Consular Attache Liu Li were present at the meeting.
