Statement on a Chinese National Being Held in Custody at Indo-Bangla Border
2021-06-12 02:19

The Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata has noticed that a Chinese national was held by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Indo-Bangla Border on June 10.

It is with strong dissatisfaction that we find the personal information of the said Chinese national, including passport copy, profile photo and video, was wantonly released online disregarding rights to privacy. It is also disappointing that some media reports have readily labeled the involved person as "spy", and the case "a big achievement" , without due legal procedures.

The Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata strongly requests that concerning Indian authorities to take immediate measures to safeguard the legitimate rights of the personal privacy to the involved Chinese national according to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and laws and regulations of the governments concerned, as well as to ensure a fair and just trail for the case, and release relevant information in a timely and responsible manner.
