On May 31, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhon of Cambodia in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that with a traditional friendship, China and Cambodia have set an example of relations featuring equal treatment and mutually beneficial cooperation. The Cambodian side actively supports the goal of building a community with a shared future for mankind proposed by President Xi Jinping. The two sides took the lead in signing the action plan for building a community with a shared future for China and Cambodia, charting the course for the future of China-Cambodia relations. The Chinese side will, as always, firmly support Cambodia's efforts to safeguard sovereignty, maintain stability, accelerate development and improve people's livelihood, and support Cambodia in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs.

Wang Yi pointed out that we are willing to join hands with the Cambodian side to well implement the important consensus reached by leaders of Cambodia and China, and vigorously advance the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, so as to achieve closer high-level exchanges, in-depth practical cooperation, stronger mutual support and more effective multilateral coordination. We need to steadily press ahead with cooperative projects, implement projects related to people's livelihood with a high quality, ensure the success of the China-Cambodia Law Enforcement Cooperation Year and the China-Cambodia Cultural and Tourism Year, strengthen law enforcement and security cooperation, as well as promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, in a bid to push China-Cambodia relations for greater development.

Wang Yi expressed that cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has always been a pacesetter for the ASEAN and its dialogue partners. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Cambodia side and other ASEAN countries to uphold multilateralism, support free trade, strive to complete negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership within this year and accelerate consultation on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, so as to jointly uphold regional peace, stability and development.

Prak Sokhon said that Cambodia and China are good neighbors, good partners and iron friends. The two sides signed an action plan last month to build a community with a shared future for mankind, which provides a roadmap for further deepening bilateral relations. The joint efforts of building a community with a shared future for mankind are demonstrated in many areas, including advancing the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, expanding the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Mechanism and deepening cooperation under the ASEAN-China framework. The Cambodian side thanked the Chinese side for its strong support for Cambodia's economic and social development and improvement of people's livelihood, and expressed the willingness to work with the Chinese side to constantly elevate Cambodia-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to new levels.
