The China-Africa Institute Established in Beijing Yang Jiechi Reads the Congratulatory Message from President Xi Jinping and Delivers a Speech

The inauguration of the China-Africa Institute was held in Beijing on April 9, 2019. Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi attended the event. He read the congratulatory message from President Xi Jinping and delivered a speech.

Yang Jiechi noted that the congratulatory message from President Xi Jinping speaks volumes about his personal and China's commitment to and support for China-Africa relations and people-to-people exchanges. It strengthens the confidence and determination of the two sides to make the China-Africa Institute a success.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that the recent years has seen the deepening of China-Africa comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership and thriving people-to-people exchanges. China and Africa are working together to expand people-to-people exchanges including think tank cooperation, increase experience sharing and mutual learning in governance and development, and explore new models of mutually beneficial cooperation to win more popular support for China-Africa relations. Both sides are working together to make sure that China-Africa cooperation is presented to the world in the right way, and that the international community sees China, Africa and China-Africa cooperation as they truly are. The establishment of the China-Africa Institute reflects new trends and features of an ever growing China-Africa relationship and growing expectations and demand for closer cooperation between Chinese and African think tanks. It is hoped that the China-Africa Institute will seize the historical opportunities, strive for distinction and excellence, play a positive role in strengthening cultural, policy and people-to-people links between China and Africa, achieve greater policy synergy for an even higher-level comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership between China and Africa, create a strong talent pool for people-to-people exchanges between China and Africa, foster favorable public opinion for the friendship and cooperation between China and Africa, and make great contributions to building an even stronger community with a shared future between China and Africa.

Nearly 350 people, including representatives from government departments, academic institutions, think tanks, and social celebrities of China and Africa as well as diplomatic envoys of African countries to China, attended the event.
