Wang Yi Holds Talks with Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation Alain Aimé Nyamitwe of Burundi

On March 15, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation Alain Aimé Nyamitwe of Burundi, who was on an official visit to China.

Wang Yi noted that China supports Burundi to actively explore a development path that suits its own national conditions, and is willing to, together with Burundi, seize the historic opportunity of the integration of development strategies of China and Africa and grasp the implementation of outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to expand bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture, infrastructure construction, human resource development and other fields, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and intensify coordination in international and regional affairs, so as to make China-Burundi cooperation better benefit the two peoples.

Alain Aimé Nyamitwe thanked China for its strong support and selfless assistance to Burundi for a long time, and highly appreciated China's important role in international and African affairs as well as China's great contribution to Africa's peace and development. He reiterated that the Burundian government will work with China to continuously understand and firmly support each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns, comprehensively deepen bilateral friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and welcome Chinese enterprises to invest in Burundi and participate in the national construction of Burundi.

After the talks, both sides signed the agreement on the establishment of the consultation mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries.
